Our tiny town of Wootton

First, let me paint a picture. For those who have never visited Wootton, it would have to be one of the tiniest towns in Australia. Wootton is located on the Wootton Way which used to be the Pacific Highway. When the A1 Freeway was built back in the late 1990s, Wootton was bypassed (thankfully!). It is now a sleepy little haven in one of the most beautiful, natural locations on the mid-north coast of NSW.

We live just over 2km from the village and the Wootton Community Centre is the hub of the community here. Every month we have community dinners and food swaps where we bring whatever is growing in abundance in our gardens. Although we’ve only been here less than a year, we absolutely love our community up here. It consists of an eclectic mix of forever locals and tree changers from Sydney and Newcastle and many other places.

Who’s who in the zoo

We currently have 5 dogs living in our home, our own four dogs Daisy, Luna, Harvey and Henry, and a temporary holiday-maker Dude the American Staffy. Dude is in foster care after being rescued as a pup in a country pound about a year ago by Sydney rescue group Denise at Paws. His foster family have gone on holidays for a few weeks and needed help. In early January, we opened our home to Dude when we saw a request on Facebook for holiday care. He’s been an absolute delight.

The models

I chose Luna and Harvey to take into the village with me so I could photograph them for this week’s theme. They are the two least likely to run off searching for mice. It was another incredibly hot day today, and it was 31 degrees Celcius whilst we were in the village. We were only there for 15 minutes before heading back up to the farm to the coolness of the farmhouse. I took these photos on the verandah of the Community Hall which used to be the old School House and Hall up until 1978.
