Texture in Dog Photography

Creating textured backgrounds using photographs of ordinary things around the home

This week’s Pet Photography 52 Weeks Project theme is “texture”. We have so much texture on our farm here in Wootton which makes it perfect for dog photography.

I ran out of time this afternoon, so I quickly ran around the farmhouse snapping a few different things such as our timber verandah decking and the gravel driveway to use in this blog.

I’m no Photoshop guru but it is on my list of things to explore this year. I used this photograph of Harvey which is currently a marketing image for my Paws for Oz Fundraising project to help wildlife who have suffered through the Australian Bushfires. You can find out more about that at the end of this post.

The first image is the original, taken in my temporary studio in the farm shed using a plywood backdrop.

The second image is an overlay of a photograph of our timber decking on our verandah goes all the way around our house.

The third image is a photograph of the gravel driveway. The same gravel that was washed away in the huge storm we had a few weeks ago, and into the gardens!

So short and sweet, and not technically brilliant, but it was fun to have a play, and it has made me want to explore this more as it opens so many opportunities in fine art editing.

Paws for Oz is a very special project close to my heart. I am so excited to announce that I’ve joined a group of international pet photographers to help raise funds for Wildlife Victoria after the devastating bushfires which have destroyed so many lives. You can find out more here.

Teeny Tiny Dogs and their Stories Collector’s Edition sold out at the book launch, however, don’t despair, the second edition is now available!

2020 sessions and pricing will soon be available so make sure you join my pack to be informed when this information is released.
