Transforming colour to various shades of grey to create a more impactful and flattering image
This week’s them in our pet photographer’s 52-week project is shades of grey, so I’m transforming colour images to various shades of grey.
A couple of weeks ago I photographed some horses in my town. Maci was born in late October, just before the bushfires hit our area. I really wanted to photograph her in her first week but the weather, and then the Christmas rush, delayed this until just recently. Our region consisted of shades of brown due to the drought and incessant heat of the past few months. Three weeks ago that changed significantly when the huge thunderstorm hit and delivered a third of the entire 2019 rainfall in just two days. So those shades of brown became intense shades of green as nature fought back with the nourishment from the rainfall.
The reason I chose this image to transform colour to shades of grey
I chose this image for this week’s theme as I found that the green, as wonderful as it is to have, was a little too intense for this beautiful image of Maci and her mum Mini. I don’t often delve into monochromatic photography as it isn’t really my style, however, sometimes it just fits and takes the image to another level. I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments. Which version do you prefer for this image?
