Pet Photography 52 Weeks Project – Week 23 – Fairy Tale

Welcome to Week 23 of the Pet Photography 52 Weeks Project.  This week’s theme is “Fairy Tale”.

There once was a little wire-haired Jack Russell named Indi

Since I first got into animal rescue photography back in 2011 I’ve met some incredible people and made some life-long friends (and some not so life-long!). Claire is one friend who’s stayed the distance and has always provided me with a sounding board and will honestly play devil’s advocate too when I have dilemmas to face in life, and I consider her one of my closest friends.

I photographed Claire with her two dogs, Indi and Layla, back in winter of 2014. Firstly at their home and then we headed to Macquarie’s Lighthouse at Vaucluse as it was a gorgeous winter’s afternoon.

Sadly little Indi passed away from bladder cancer on the first day of July in 2016. With Claire’s love and care, and turning to natural medicine to help keep Indi as healthy as possible, she prolonged his life by about 12 months, and for this 12 months he was very healthy, comfortable and happy. Claire’s world was shattered when Indi crossed the Rainbow Bridge and he still comes up often in our conversations.

Every so often a blue butterfly visits Claire and Layla, and usually at very uncanny times. Claire believes (and so do I) that the presence of this blue butterfly is Indi’s way of showing he is still around in spirit and still very bonded with his family.

I had recently photographed Layla again up in Dover Heights as the sun was setting over the Sydney Harbour Skyline, and when I found this photo I’d taken, I came up with a little idea for Claire and had it printed for her on a wood panel. It may seem like a fairy tale, but I like to think it is actually a fairy tail.

What a sweet story! I’m always looking for signs that Shep is still with me.
