Today is International Cat Day a day created way back in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare to celebrate these beautiful creatures.
Over the past 7 years, I’ve photographed thousands of cats at animal shelters and in foster carers’ homes, many sadly didn’t make it out, but many did thanks to social media and people with big hearts and determination to make a difference.
Just this year alone, I’ve photographed over 250 cats and kittens at the Sutherland Shire Council Animal Shelter.
There is a huge over-population of cats all over the world due to people not getting their pets desexed, letting them roam, and not caring about them the way they need caring about. #desexyourpets
As you know I’m a huge dog-lover however I absolutely adore cats as well which is why I’m celebrating this day with you. Cats are incredible creatures and like dogs, there are so many personalities all with their unique gifts. If you have a cat, or a neighbouring cat, take a moment give them some extra love today, as it is their day
Here are a few of the cats and kittens I’ve photographed over the past few weeks. The fantastic news I received this afternoon on this special day is that for the first time in many years, the Sutherland Shire Animal Shelter doesn’t have any new cats to photograph this week, and all the cats there can fit in just one of the three main cat rooms. How fantastic is that!
To find out more about these gorgeous feline personalities (plus Russia and Gnocchi who didn’t fit above), please visit the Sutherland Shire Council Animal Shelter on PetRescue where you will find their individual profiles.
