The tail end of golden hour with dogs and another stunning sunset in the Wootton Valley
This week’s theme in our pet photographer’s 52-week project is Golden Hour. Yesterday we had yet another beautiful autumn afternoon here on our farm in Wootton. I grabbed my camera, some treats and a couple of our dogs. The ever-happy-to-help-model-for-mumma Luna and I-just-want-to-play-ball Henry and headed up the driveway at the tail end of sunset for this week’s topic. By the time we set up, it was the tail end of golden hour.
My sessions on the most part take place during golden hour which is the hour leading up until sunset. Golden hour also includes the hour after sunrise. I rarely get up early enough to enjoy this beautiful time of the day unless I have an adventurous client who doesn’t mind the morning dew on their dog wet and themselves. As for me, I’m soaking from head to toe after an early morning golden hour session rolling around in the grass!
Golden hour is the time when the sun is low in the sky and the light is at it’s best for beautifully lit portraits. If you want action photos of your dog, well that’s when we’d choose a time outside of golden hour. Earlier in the afternoon is great, as we need more light to catch that action.
I hope you enjoy these photos.

I love Luna’s expressions throughout – and Henry with the Rugby ball, that image says so much about his personality!
Luna is so cooperative. What a good stay. And you lucky gal, getting sunsets this week. My favorite is Henry with his ball, though. You tell his story so perfectly.
Beautiful pictures and light, Jo! Great posers! Love that last image with Henry and the ball next to him – great ears!
Such beautiful photos. Your dogs and their expressive little faces make me smile everytime.
Sunsets that are pink and purple are the very best! The photos of Luna and Henry are great! I absolutely love the one of Luna laying down in the grass in front of the fence.
