Before and After Belted Galloways - calf enjoying the sun

Before and After

Before and After – Minor editing tweaks on Belted Galloway Cows and Calves

This week’s them in our pet photographer’s 52-week project is Before and After. As we are in lockdown at the farm, and I’m not shooting any client work, I thought I’d do my before and after on some of the photos I took last Friday of the Belted Galloway cows and their new babies. The cows were staying on our farm since Spring last year and moved home to our neighbours a month a couple of months ago to get ready to give birth to their baby pandas. The main editing on these images is to remove the pesky flies, and there are still lots of them up here on the Mid North Coast despite the fact we are in Autumn. The weather is very warm and the flies just love harassing these mums and their babies.

Drag the slider to the right on each photo to see the unedited image, and the caption is below each image.

Mum and bub were being harassed by flies so I removed the flies, the mum’s ear tag and the distracting background elements. I also pulled the reds down a little.

I removed the tail on the left and decided to flip the image horizontally in the edit. I added some sun flare to the image also.

This gorgeous baby calf was enjoying the last rays of the day after having his fill of grass and milk. I removed a few flies and some blown highlights in the grass.

I love this little one having a sniff of the flower, which is actually onion weed! A daisy would have been much cuter. I decided to crop in on this one.

Last but not least is this furry little panda calf. I removed the other calf in the background to give this baby space to shine.

We never see cows on our tours around the world. Thanks for being different!

I loved reading your comments about the changes to the images, and using the slider, which made the changes really shine through. I love cows!

Baby cows! Not many things cuter! How sweet that you had a front row seat to seeing them and they are adorable. I’ve never heard of Belted Galloway cows, but I like your reference to Pandas. Great edits throughout, if you hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known you manipulated anything (which is a compliment!).
